How much is the radio and TV fee, and how is the money used?

ANSWER: The radio and TV fee was 2 400 SEK/year until 31 December 2018. The radio and TV fee was replaced with a general public service fee 1 January 2019. The new fee is handled by the Swedish Tax Agency.

This is how much the TV fee was until 31 December 2018:

  •   SEK 200/month
  •   SEK 2 400/year

The fee finances public service:

  • Sveriges Television (SVT)
  • Sveriges Radio (SR)
  • Sveriges Utbildningsradio (UR, educational broadcasting) 

The Swedish parliament has decided to replace the current radio and TV fee with a general public service fee as of 1 January 2019.

ANSWER: Yes, Radiotjänst do record the phone calls.

The purpose of the recordnings is to ensure the quality of the phone calls and for you to feel safe in your contact with us. The recordings are kept for a limited amount of time.

Why didn't I get information about the closure of the TV fee?

ANSWER: The parliamentary decision was taken as late as 14 November. Starting 16 November, all households in Sweden were reached by an information sheet from Radiotjänst, which described what is happening.

The Government and the Parliament have informed continuously during the process.
